HotFix: Equipping items

02 April 2024

There was an issue with equipping items, you could only unequip. This has been resolved. You will need to do a hard refresh(ctrl+f5) to ensure you get the new changes.

QoL and upgrade prep

In the early hours of the day (for me), the game went offline due to a failed service.

I took the "opportunity" to apply some pending updates that i had.

76 updates made to back end code in preparation for a shift from .NET 5 to .Net 6. This is the underlying framework for c# and this upgrade will bring a ~40% increase to game general speed.

33 updates to server kernels, nodes and modules.

QoL: added a button to clear your loot log

Looks like the changes promised to the "other stats" tab weren't commited to the repository and so weren't included in this update. but they are coming!

I fixed an issue with critical hits, where in certain cases the damage was stacking each round, rather than being a singular increase as expecteed.

People keep asking about the online counter too. There's been some issues parsing DateTime fields correctly as these values have been stored differently over the years, and innactive players have different values than whats currently expected. Funnily enough, I can get this working correctly in my development environment, but it doesn't translate correctly when in live. I am making progress on fixing that issue though.

2023 Christmas Charity Wrap up

A happy new year to all!

As per usual, throughout December, 10% of all donations to the game go to charity. It was decided by mass vote in chat that I donate to Mind UK again like previous years. Mental health affects us all and is personally one of my favourite charities.

We didn't reach above my minimum donation to them, so I will be donating £100 to them after having posted this announcement.

Thank you everyone for all your support to me and the game over the years. You're all awesome.

Runes!

First of all allow me to apologise. Most of you are already aware already but here goes. First of all, I kept changing my mind on how I wanted runes to work, extending the time it took to create constantly. Then more recently being plagued by family and personal issues. With that in mind, I decided to change how Runes worked a final time, making the whole thing much more simpler than anything I had planned for it to be.

Now, here we are, with a much simpler version of runes. But at least it's finally now here!

There are 12 tunes in total. 6 regular and 6 "special". All runes are upgraded equally and each rotation, 1 of the special runes will also be upgraded. No randomisation involved here. Runes are upgraded sequentially and the special runes also follow a cycle as well. so each of those upgrade sequentially also.

Each cycle the upgrade cost increases.

Cost? what's the cost?!

There is a new resource called Rune Fragments. There are 2 sources of gaining them. First is a random drop. just like diamonds, valkyrie shards and autos, they have been added to the regular drop pool. This does make diamonds drop a bit less often, but auto's and shard rates remain unaffected. The second way these can drop is from a new special mob. "Runic" mobs behave just like fools or elites. They appear less often than the other 2, but guarantee a rune fragment drop.
If you're super lucky, you could also have a Runic mob that has a regular drop of runne fragments too. double drop!

Fragment drop amounts are based off your reborn number. The more you've rebirthed, the more you could potentially get. Minimum gain is always 1, maximum gain is reborn count +1.

Server Maintenence

Performed some server maintenance, which included OS and package updates. RAM recycled as well, which should aleviate the CPU spikes we were having earlier today causing some lag.

December Charity Event

As with every year, throughout the whole of December, any donations made to the game, any amount after upkeep costs goes to charity. This year is no different.

With the Christmas event starting tomorrow, I finally decided what charity I wanted to donate to this year.

This year, in honour of my fiancée's recently departed Grandfather, I would like to donate to Cancer Research Uk.

If we don't meet targets, I'll still be donating a minimum of £100 to the charity regardless.

Datacentre Move

20 October 2022

On the 14th November 2022, Our server provider will be carrying out a server move. We unfortunately have a server that will be moved. However, our server will be moved to a higher performace area of the data centre, so it should be an improvement.

As there are thousands of servers being moved, They have stated that our server could be down for a maximum of 4 hours, between 22.00 and 06.00 the following day.

Will compensate for lost time with 24h of event after the move is completed.

Second (belated) Birthday

Turns out that i missed the games second birthday! How dare I?!

I have added event time and sale for a week in celebration.

 

Lets reflect on a few things in the last year.

I completely rebuilt the game from scratch, in a more up-to-date version of the language the game was written in. This made things a lot smoother and future proof.

We moved to a server twice as powerful than previously, with the same provider.

A fair few updates made too, check back on the announcements if you want reminding what happened!

 

Looking forward...

I am in the process of building the rune system. probably about 30% done. Next up after that would be an idea I had for pets. So ya'll can finally shut up about getting your dragon. ;)

Positive Tweaking

  • Removed the mission diamond restriction until i can find a permanant solution.
  • Event time from purchases is now applied immediately instead of accumulating for an event starting the enxt month.
  • Event time from purchases has been increased to 5 minutes per $1 instead of 1 minute.
  • Fools and elites now no longer have additional stats. They simply are just bonus mobs that give you an additive 100% bonus to either gold or exp.

New server plus some fixes

Today we finally made the last steps for what the game redevelopment was about. Which was to move it to a server with different architecture that makes it cheaper than what we were using previously.

This new server is not only cheaper, but has both more RAM and CPU cores. so is a win-win-win!

With the server now being cheaper, I have also now reduced the cost of subscription.

I've also deployed the latest codebase. Which includes a few fixes and changes.

  • Fixed a bug (again) that causes players with 0 quests completed to get an error when they are on a location that contains a quest.
  • Added button to maintenence page that will check if the maintenence is over and send you back to the game.
  • Hopefully the random error appearing and stopping you from playing is also fixed.
  • Max diamonds received from a mission has been set to 100. This is a "quick fix" and i'll be revisiting missions soon to add more variety of both types and rewards.

This is all i can remember that was done. There, may have been 1 or 2 things i missed.
